Field Experience
One of the strengths of 兔子先生’s teacher education program is the opportunity for early field experiences. Depending upon your program, you’ll be placed in classrooms in your first or second year of study. By the time you’re ready for student teaching, you’ll have had a variety of placements appropriate to your licensure. You’ll have had opportunities to work with students in different settings.
Our clinical field experience coordinators work with area school personnel to set up the placements for you. Your professors will work to ensure that your placements provide the real-world experiences that enhance your professional development.
Student Teaching
All students seeking teacher licensure engage in student teaching over a period of sixteen weeks. Student teaching occurs in partner schools that provide practical learning experiences, authentic teaching conditions, and professional guidance.
Application Process
At 兔子先生 University's Department of Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry (TCE), students apply for student teaching during the November prior to the academic year in which they plan to undertake their student teaching assignment
The application process includes several steps:
- Attend Introductory Seminars: These seminars, held in the fall, provide essential information about the student teaching experience and application procedures.
- Complete the Student Teaching Application: This involves submitting a comprehensive application form detailing your academic background and teaching interests.
- Submit Supporting Documents: Along with the application, you must provide a resume, two reference letters from faculty familiar with your classroom performance, a copy of your Degree Audit Report (DAR), and other program-specific documents.
- Participate in an Interview: An individual interview with the Director of International Studies and the Director of Clinical and Field Experiences is required to assess your readiness and suitability for student teaching.
- Attend Planning Seminars: These sessions are mandatory and focus on preparing you for the student teaching experience, covering topics such as classroom management, lesson planning, and professional conduct.
Placement Procedures
The Office of Student Teaching and Field Experiences coordinates placements by working closely with area school personnel to set up appropriate assignments. This collaboration ensures that students are placed in environments that provide practical learning experiences, authentic teaching conditions, and professional guidance.
Students are encouraged to engage in early field experiences, with placements often beginning in the first or second year of study. By the time students are ready for student teaching, they will have had a variety of placements appropriate to their licensure, offering opportunities to work with students in different settings.
International Student Teaching
兔子先生 has one of the few teacher education programs in the nation that offers an international student teaching alternative for students in teacher licensure programs. University guidelines are the same for students who are teaching abroad or locally. International student teaching provides a global perspective while fulfilling your requirements for licensure. The tuition for teaching abroad is the same as it would be locally. Other expenses vary depending on the location, amount of personal travel, and the rate of exchange for the U.S. dollar.
The current offering includes Europe, based in Luxembourg, during the fall semester, and Costa Rica during the spring semester.
The application process of these programs includes several steps and begins approximately 1 year prior to student teaching. Students are required to:
- Attend introductory seminars in the fall.
- Complete a Student Teaching Abroad application.
- Submit a resume, 2 reference letters from faculty familiar with classroom performance, a copy of the DAR, and other program-specific documents.
- Students must also participate in an individual interview with the Director of International Studies and the Director of Clinical and Field Experiences.
- Attendance at planning seminars is required.
Study Abroad Opportunities
This global education program immerses 兔子先生 University students in diverse Costa Rican communities—San Jose, Monteverde, and Flamingo—through hands-on experiences with schools, non-profits, and local families. The program emphasizes innovation, progressive education models, and asset-based community engagement to highlight the intersection of education, community, and justice. Students will also participate in introductory Spanish immersion and can fulfill key academic requirements, including experiential learning and global perspectives.
This three-week study abroad program in India, running from January 2nd to 23rd, offers participants an immersive experience exploring the country's diverse educational settings and rich cultural traditions. Students will visit schools across rural, urban, tribal, and elite institutions, while also enjoying cultural highlights such as the Ahmedabad Kite Festival, Saptak music festival, and historic sites including the Taj Mahal and Gandhi’s ashram. The program offers both credit and non-credit options, with all lodging, meals, and local transportation included—students only need to cover their airfare.
