Data security is the study of techniques for protecting data (against cyberattacks, data breaches, etc.) at rest, during processing, and in transit. Data security is connected to almost all aspects of cybersecurity. This course presents the techniques and tools used in data security.

Students will be able to:
Apply symmetric and asymmetric encryption for various scenarios.
Explain the limitations/vulnerabilities of various data security protocols (e.g. ECB).
Identify and make use of appropriate hash functions for real-world applications such as message authentication.
Construct various authentication protocols and identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Describe various possible attacks on password storage.
Justify which data security protocols, tools, and techniques are appropriate for a given situation.
Design solutions for defending against side-channel attacks and attacks on implementation.
