Catalog description:

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of computer networking, the OSI stack, and the practical and conceptual skills needed to build simple local area networks, perform basic device configurations, and implement subnet schemes and their IP addressing. Students will also configure and troubleshoot simulated networks consisting of end devices, switches and routers.

Students will be able to:

1. Analyze network architectures, models, and standards from the OSI physical through applications layers.
2. Explain key networking protocols and their role in network configuration, management and data communication.
3. Design and implement standard networks consisting of routers, addressing, DNS, and applications in simulated environments.
4. Explain the use and importance of the OSI network layer addressing and routing. 
5. Classify and compare basic WAN technologies.
