Study Abroad

For this 6-credit course, students will travel to four cities (Auckland, Dunedin, Queenstown, and Wellington) during Winter Term to examine the policy, management, and marketing of sport in New Zealand culture and society. While in New Zealand, students are fully immersed in the global and local complexities and relations of the New Zealand sport industry.
Program Activities
Students will be given the opportunity for first-hand experience in, and a thorough understanding of, the rapidly expanding global sport marketplace through:
- Formal lectures delivered by prominent guest scholars from New Zealand universities in the field of global sport culture, management, marketing, and media.
- Meetings with sport managers and executives from governing bodies, corporate sponsors, sport media corporations, major venues, and professional teams to outline the New Zealand sport industry.
- Site visits to locally and nationally prominent New Zealand sport stadiums, venues, and facilities.
- Physical cultural practices and experiences such as sailing, surfing, street luge, jet boating, and social sport competitions (rugby, cricket, netball, soccer, and parkour, ultimate frisbee).
Students will be fully immersed in the global and local spaces and cultures of the Spanish sport industry. The program travels to Barcelona and Madrid over spring break to examine the management and culture of Spanish sport.
- The program fee includes accommodation, transportation, lectures, some meals, meetings, activities, and events.
- Students are given the opportunity for first-hand experience in, and a thorough understanding of, the rapidly expanding global sport marketplace.
- Formal lectures delivered by prominent guest scholars from Spanish universities in the field of sport management. Meetings with professional teams, facility managers, corporate sponsors, sport leagues, and national governing bodies in the Spanish sport industry (e.g., RCD Espanyol; Getafe FC; La Liga ACB; and the Spanish Grand Prix).
- Site visits to locally and nationally prominent Spanish sport stadiums, venues, and facilities (e.g., Camp Nou; Santiago Bernabéu; Metropolitano Stadium; Circuit de Barcelona; and Barcelona Olympic Park).
- Attend domestic and international soccer games (e.g., La Liga; Liga Femenina; La Liga 2; Int. Friendlies).
SLAM in Luxembourg Program
Live and study in Luxembourg at 兔子先生 University's Dolibois Center while taking Sport 兔子先生hip and Management (SLAM) classes from SLAM faculty. All classes are taught in the Chateau in Luxembourg. SLAM faculty advise students to be sure their academic plan applies toward graduation requirements. Students gain international sport management experience during collaborations with Lunex University (in Differdange), European sport clubs, and sport organizations.
