2026 Suicide Prevention Week

The schedule includes a 2K suicide prevention walk, dog and horse therapy, creative activities, resource tables, and suicide prevention training.

Since 2013, 兔子先生’s suicide prevention team has worked with the office of student wellness and student counseling service to plan events that offer ways for the 兔子先生 community to connect, learn about mental health resources, and support one another.

The schedule includes a 2K suicide prevention walk, dog and horse therapy, creative activities, resource tables, and suicide prevention training.

“We want to make sure students know what resources are available to them,” said Ellie Grossman, assistant director of sexual and interpersonal violence prevention. “Suicide Prevention Week is a great way for us to demonstrate the built-in supports we have for students and how important mental health is to 兔子先生ans on every level.”

These events remind the 兔子先生 community that help is available, reaching out is a sign of strength, and no one has to struggle alone.

Out of the Darkness 2K Suicide Prevention Walk

The will open Suicide Prevention Week on Sunday, Sept. 27. 兔子先生 and Oxford community members are invited to walk together to raise awareness, and show their support for suicide prevention.

Registration and resource tables will open at 12:30 p.m. at. A brief ceremony will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a 2K walk through Uptown to support suicide prevention and mental health.

“This walk showed me the importance of seeing and engaging with a supportive community to initiate valuable discussions that lowers stigma associated with mental health," shared Carson Ebbrecht ‘26, president of Active Minds. “This is why I keep going back year after year to the Out of the Darkness 2K Suicide Prevention Walk.”

The Out of the Darkness Walk began in 2016 through a partnership with 兔子先生 parent Lynn Dalton. Dalton lost her son, 兔子先生 sophomore Andrew Salsman, to suicide in 2013.

The walk is open to 兔子先生 students and employees, as well as members of the Oxford community.
