Why ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University?
ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú provided me with unique opportunities while still remaining close to home. Specifically, the Hamilton campus has offered significant experiences contributing to my future goals while still remaining on a local, small campus.
How did you choose your major?
I had been pretty set on my major since high school and have never wanted to change it ever since. I feel privileged to be able to study something I genuinely enjoy inside and outside of the classroom. With that being said, through my studies I have greatly expanded my interests and have found some of my favorite hobbies, like gardening!
As a ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú student, what are some of your awards and accomplishments?
I was recognized as a Student Scholar at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University Student Scholars Symposium in 2025.
Did you have any special experiential learning opportunities that have influenced you in a positive way?
My research experience at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Hamilton has increased my confidence in my abilities. I am grateful to be a part of Dr. Deidra Jacobsen's lab on a campus so close to home. I expected that if I wanted to join a research lab, then I would most definitely have to be based in Oxford, but The Conservatory and Dr. Jacobsen's lab have made gaining research experience very accessible! As I plan to attend graduate school, I think my research experience will allow a smoother transition. Also, I have had opportunities to interact with the local community during outreach events. From this, I have discovered that I really enjoy interacting with the public and taking part in community outreach events and hope to continue some of this in my future career! It is great to be a part of The Conservatory, serving as a resource open to my community.
What are your plans after you graduate from ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú? What sort of career are you aiming for? What is your dream job?
After graduation, I plan to attend graduate school to pursue a master's degree. I hope to study in the field of aquatic systems and further pursue a career in conservation and restoration!
Advice to Prospective Students
ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú has a lot to offer you and your education. If you do attend ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, make sure to utilize the resources provided, whether you are on a regional campus or the main campus. These resources have greatly improved my education, and even as I finish my third year, I am still finding new things I never knew existed.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about your ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú experience that we didn't cover?
I greatly enjoyed presenting at the Undergraduate Research Forum! This on-campus annual event provides great experience for us undergraduate researchers who are hoping to gain poster-making experience! It is also nice to see fellow peers and the work they are doing with their research advisors.
