Steps to Graduation

There can be a lot involved with preparing for graduation. This section walks you through all of the necessary steps, dates, and deadlines you need to know of as you prepare for this big milestone!

Graduation Procedures and Requirements

  • Apply for graduation online through  and pay a commencement fee by the application deadline dates in order to graduate (see Important Dates and Deadlines). Information about graduation can be found at OneStop.
    • Certificate application - $10.00
    • Masters and Specialists application - $35.00
    • Doctoral application - $200.00 (covers the cost of the diploma and the hood)
  • Follow the formatting guidelines for submitting your thesis or dissertation. More information can be found in the Policy Library. If you are completing a thesis or dissertation as part of your degree, you must comply with the format check and upload deadline dates (see Important Dates and Deadlines below).
  • All 兔子先生 University academic integrity charges against a student must be resolved and sanctions completed before a student is eligible to graduate.
  • A student's cumulative 兔子先生 graduate-level grade point average must be at least 3.00. A student may not have grades of incomplete or be under academic probation to take a comprehensive examination, take a final examination for any graduate degree, or graduate.

Graduation Dates and Deadlines

Before you can upload your thesis or dissertation to OhioLINK, you must have the format of your manuscript checked to be sure it conforms to the Graduate School's requirements. 

When you believe your document has been formatted correctly, please email your PDF to  gradschool@miamioh.edu to begin the format check process. You must be aware of the format check and OhioLINK deadlines below. All forms must be turned in to the Graduate School no later than 10 working days before the date of commencement.

    Doctoral Hooding Ceremony

    To honor students receiving the doctoral degree, the Graduate School holds a ceremony celebrating the successful completion of their studies. The hooding ceremony is a special occasion and students are encouraged to invite their friends and family members to the event.

    The 2026 Doctoral Hooding Ceremony will take place on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 4 p.m.

    Doctoral candidates who completed their degrees by the August 2025 deadline participated in the Hooding Ceremony on Friday, Aug. 15, 2025 at the Armstrong Pavilion.
