Work in Progress
Dr. Chang studies how the rural-urban divide and gender shaped Chinese state factories from the 1950's to today. Her research traces the rise and fall of massive state-owned factories, showing that these symbols of socialist progress were uneven and complex spatial entities. By looking at how cities and factory spaces were built, she tells the story of how industrial workers and their families experienced life in a changing China, from socialism to capitalism.
