The Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) , when buses start to roll out of the new Chestnut Street Station transit hub in Oxford.

The updates will improve efficiency, add new destinations, and make it even easier for riders to travel around ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University, the city of Oxford, and the region, according to the BCRTA.

New routes were shaped by survey feedback from the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú community last spring. 

Chestnut Street Station, the new multimodal transportation center at 97 W. Chestnut St. which opens later in the semester, provides a central transit hub for ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú students, employees, and Oxford residents. 

BCRTA’s fixed routes and SafeRide service remain free for all riders — students, employees, and community members — no ID required.

“These improvements have been in planning for several years,” said Shawn Cowan, director of Customer Care and Public Engagement for BCRTA. “The opening of the Chestnut Street Station marks an exciting new era for public transportation in Oxford and the region.”

The changes take effect one week before ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú’s fall semester begins. BCRTA ambassadors will be on campus during the first week of classes, Aug. 25-29, to assist riders with the transition.

‘O’ is for Oxford routes: Expanded destinations

The new "O" (Oxford) routes replace the former "U" (University) routes, which ran in loops. New O routes run bidirectionally for easier travel and maintain the same service hours as the former routes. 

O routes include new stops for better access to the Farmer School of Business, off-campus student housing, and other key destinations.

  • O1 – Direct service to Farmer School of Business
  • O2 and O4 – Use new Patterson stops to reach the Farmer School of Business
  • R3 – New stops at Level 27 and The Annex (Southpointe Parkway)

R3 Regional Service

Updates to the Oxford–Forest Park R3 route:
  • New early start time at 4:25 a.m.
  • Earlier end time at 9:50 p.m.
  • Additional stops on Southpointe Parkway
  • Direct connections from Oxford to Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield

Updated SafeRide Hours

  • Sunday–Thursday: 10 p.m.–1 a.m.
  • Friday–Saturday: 10 p.m.–3 a.m.
