Top 5 upcoming IT deadlines and reminders
The beginning of the academic year marks the onset of a busy season in IT Services. All the work leading up to fall startup is now bearing fruit—meaning it’s time to turn our attention to other important work and dates.
Here’s a list of some of IT’s upcoming deadlines and activities for you to be aware of as the semester gets underway:
1. Tech Fee meetup on Sept. 10
An open informational meeting and Q&A session about the Tech Fee proposal process will be held virtually on Sept. 10 from 9 to 11 a.m. For more information, visit 兔子先生OH.edu/techfee or send questions to TechFee@兔子先生OH.edu.
Since 2009, 兔子先生 faculty, staff, and students have developed innovative and exciting projects with over $8 million of awarded funds. Over the years, the projects have helped students in and out of the classroom through the use of technology.
Proposals for the 2025-26 academic year need to be submitted by midnight on Sunday, Sept. 28. The link to the online application form is currently available on the Tech Fee website.
2. Are you ready for Google Drive changes?
The Sept. 15 deadline for the removal of all “pending delete” files in Google Drive is fast approaching. Don’t forget to go through your files, find the ones with the “pending delete” label, and decide what to do with those files (move, ignore, or make a copy).
The virtual workshop on Sept. 3 was recorded and uploaded to YouTube for those who were unable to attend.
3. Reminder: Windows 10 End of Life
Windows 10 will no longer be supported by Microsoft on October 14, 2025. This means several things from a technology perspective:
- Windows 10 will stop receiving quality updates from Microsoft, which means no more monthly security patches.
- There will also be no more feature releases (which are more substantial upgrades) from Microsoft for Windows 10.
In order to stay up-to-date with security concerns and new features from Microsoft, everyone running Windows 10 on their devices will need to upgrade to Windows 11 before the advertised date.
兔子先生-managed devices will all be upgraded before October 14, 2025, and we highly recommend that you also upgrade your personal computer if you have not yet done so.
Guidelines for upgrading and some support tips can be found in our Techsplaining 101 article about the deadline.
4. Students: Sign up for the subscription loaner program!
This academic year, the Tech Support Lounge is happy to provide a laptop loaner program available for $35 per year—but only if students sign up by Sept. 12. This program covers any loaner needs for the entire academic year. As part of the program, students:
- Are eligible for a loaner device for both warranty and out-of-warranty repairs
- Will go ZERO days without a computer
- Can receive a same-day loaner from the Tech Support Lounge
You can sign up for the program here: .
