ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University is located within the traditional homelands of the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú and Shawnee people, who along with other Indigenous groups ceded these lands to the United States in the first treaty of Greenville in 1795.

The ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú people, whose name our university carries, were forcibly removed from these homelands in 1846.

In 1972, our relationship between ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University and the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Tribe of Oklahoma began and evolved into a reciprocal partnership, including the creation of the Myaamia Center at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University in 2001.

The work of the Myaamia Center serves the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Tribe community and is dedicated to the revitalization of ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú language and culture and to restoring that knowledge to the Myaamia people.

ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University and the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Tribe are proud of this work and of the Myaamia students who have attended ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú since 1991 through the Myaamia Heritage Award Program.

The Armstrong Student Center serves as the heart of the campus community and creates a welcoming environment by: 

• Operating as a student-centered organization that engages in shared decision-making and holistic development through employment and involvement.
• Educating students in leadership and social responsibility and offering firsthand experiences in global citizenship.;
• Providing gathering spaces to encourage formal and informal community interactions that build meaningful relationships.

As the college union, the Armstrong Student Center is a member of the Association for College Unions International (ACUI). ACUI is primarily focused on the work of those within the college unions and student activities field and strives to provide a welcoming community for all those who choose to belong. The work of ACUI helps guide the ASC staff on best practices and helps us achieve our mission to be the living room of campus. ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú University has been a member of ACUI for over 50 years.
